2017 New Year's Resolution How-To

Thursday, December 29, 2016

The New Year is fast approaching. The New Year brings promise of  new start and new adventures.
Resolutions are the hope to improve the quality of life and start over.
I've complied a list of How-Tos to help you create a resolution and stick to it.

1. What is your life's mission?

Heavy at first, I know, but ask yourself 'what is your purpose on Earth'
For example some people find purpose in educating,
building business, creating art etc.
What is your purpose ans write it down.

My mission is  to live and work creatively in art, fashion, film making, teaching, and philanthropy.

2. Make a Five-Year plan.

This I found difficult. I am a here and now person so
looking ahead makes me nervous. But writing a five year plan is
important because we all need to keep an eye on our future.
My five year plan includes
Improving the quality of my Blog
Starting my Freelance Business and
Traveling the World

3. Break it down even FURTHER

Break your Year 1 goal into 12-months (Jan, Feb, Mar)
It make the goal more manageable by breaking it down into smaller steps.
that is true with everything in life.
For example:
January apply for Study Abroad Scholarships
February: Update Portfolio
March: Write everyday

4. Deadline

Deadlines create a end for the goal. Sometimes we just float along and say
we'll get around to it sometime soon. But that time never comes.
A due date or deadline is a MUST!!!
January apply for Study Abroad Scholarships (Due Feb. 1)
February: Update Portfolio (Due March 1)

5. Have Fun

It's not about the destination it's about the journey

SO what's your New Year's Resolution? Leave it in the comment section below!

Minimalistic Christmas Tree

Sunday, December 25, 2016

Christmas is the most beautiful time of the year.
The Christmas lights, gift wrappings, bows, pine trees
and baked goods.

The pine tree is no longer the tradition.
A lot small space renters use DIY Christmas
Trees to add the Christmas spirit to their homes.

People use simple hangers with branches to

potted pine tree plants. Listed below is the
best DIY Christmas Trees I've found on the internet.

I have a make-shift plan of perfect last minute gift.

now is a bad idea. It will not arrive until after Christmas.

Victoria Secret Fashion Show

Tuesday, December 6, 2016

Hello All,
Property of Victoria Secret

I am a HUGE fan of the Victoria Secret Fashion show.
I love every year how they plan a magnificent show.
The models are gorgeous, the musicians are popular.
But let's step back and give a round of applause for the designers.
Yes, the models are tall and hot but the people that design,
and create a theme for each model is a genius.

Each model has their own character, sporty, sexy, flirty or angelic.
The lingerie glistens, and shimmers as the models strut down the runway.
The Victoria Secret Fashion Show took place in Paris.
The city of high fashion a cuisine.
The designers had to bring their A-game this year.
There was no fear of bold colors and patterns. The models
also wore leather and lace.

I couldn't help but notice a pair of boots
previously seen on Kylie Jenner earlier in the
year.  The classic pink robe was worn by all the angels
backstage as they prepared for the show.

If you're a fan of VS Fashion show you can check out behind the scenes
footage here.

Modern Day Dating: The 21st Century

Saturday, October 22, 2016

Before Barefoot Queen I had a post about the  Love Life of a Passive Aggressive Girl. I may resume that series here. I just need some feedback. Yay or Nay.

But this post will add to that series. How can someone date in the 21st century? I overheard my professor talking to a student about how he met his wife at a grocery store. He advised the student to go to Whole Foods and try to meet a girl.

I assume the professor and student were close. Picking up women at a grocery store is terrifying for everyone. One the initiator must feel so nervous, to walk up to a complete stranger. No thanks. The approached is in an awkward situation. More often the initiator is someone you're not into. Sorry.
I've been approached by old men and playboys.

The 21st century requires daters to  become savvy. Dating apps like Tinder, Clover, OkCupid are easy to use but, as a user of these apps, a lot of people don't put time into their profile.  A solid profile can make or break how people respond.

I try to keep my profile light. If they want to get to know you they can ask you out ;) A good profile picture is more important than the profile. Apps like Tinder use first visual impressions to swipe life (nay) or right (yay). Good lighting, a good full body shot, and no weird flashy stuff. Stacks of money will attract the wrong people.

Those are a few tips I've picked up from "dating." Do you have anymore suggestions? Leave it in the comment section below.

Best Fictional Rooms

Tuesday, September 6, 2016

In this article, I have made a list
of my favorite fictional bedrooms.

Blaire Waldorf
The Queen B has a sexy, chic room.  Blair combined satin and soft colors to her bedroom.
Her choice in timeless pieces makes this bedroom my favorite.

Serena Van Der Woodson
Serena is the "rebellious girl" on Gossip Girl. Her room reflects her free-spirited style. Her side table is a beautiful ethnic wood pattern and her headboard is a gold girly polka-dot.

Jessica Day
This bedroom is quirky like Jessica Day. Jessica's bedroom is filled with her many crafts and cool
sweaters.

Mindy Kaling
Mindy Kaling a funny, controversial doctor who knows how to dress and decorate her room!
Mindy has  medical books conveniently located on her built-in book shelf and fun diy bed pillows.

What's your favorite fictional bedroom? Leave it in the comment section below.

Resurrection of Flare Jeans

Monday, September 5, 2016

This upcoming fall season seems like it has a  lot of 70s
and 90s inspired fashion. One of the trends being
70s Ad

resurrected is the flared jean.

In high school I was a huge fan of bootcut jeans. The reason
being is I have a pear-shaped figure and it flatted me. I owned
Old Navy bootcut jeans, GAP bootcut jeans, anywhere you could
name I had a pair.

Thankfully, the flare and bootcut jean has come back into trend.
This style of jean is more forgiving for different body types. Skinny
jeans tend to flatter those with straight body types.

I'm glad to see this trend come back. I'm excited to see how fashionistas
and celebrities dress up the trend of flare jeans. I image flare jeans with
a flowy blouse or a tee. You could dress up a dark pair of flared jeans
with a fun blazer. Maybe something from ModCloth.

In addition to flared jeans, the choker is all the rage. I image mixing
a 70s piece with a 90s accessory or the other way around.

I love to hear what you think. Leave a comment below.

Line; the Soul

Line; the Soul

Everything is made up of lines.
Lines are the soul of every design.
Lines can be thick and bold or tiny and delicate.
When you place a line on the paper
ask what's its purpose. A solid foundation makes good art,
 great.

I have been playing around with different lines
and I need to experiment with more bold designs.
My fear is that I don't have it in me to create stunning work.
I am learning the basics but I feel like there's a stigma
to creating artwork, either you have it or you don't.

I have been reassured that art takes work and patience.

What's your latest piece, leave it in the comment section below.

Where to buy Cheap Artwork

Etsy.com
Etsy has a lovely website. The platform is easy to use and secured with  Paypal.
Many independent artist display their work on Etsy. They have furniture makers and
webpage designers. I'm confident that you can find whatever your heart desires on Etsy.

Ebay.com
Ebay is like a massive garage sale. Everything is sold on their site.
Ebay is as secure as Etsy by using Paypal and customer protection.
The platform is huge so finding the perfect art piece is like finding a needle
in the hayshack but well worth it.

Shopgoodwill.com
Shopgoodwill.com is exactly like Goodwill. Treasures galore!!

Amazon.com

Art.com
Art.com is similar to Etsy. It supports and promotes independent artists.

Which site will you check out? Leave a comment below!

Decorate Your Dorm!

College Dorm Art

There's nothing like art to make a room pop.
Art can add uniqueness to any boring
white wall.

My favorite is canvas art. Canvas art can be anything from
quotes to fashion silhouettes. You can buy canvas at your local art store
or Michaels. The ideal paint to use for canvas art would be "acrylic paint" and a paint brush.
When you choose a design you like, take some tracing paper
and lightly trace the design. Then paint and leave to dry and you have
beautiful canvas art.
If you have a green thumb, plants are great dorm room accessories.
Pick plants that are low maintenance for the on the go
college girl. Plants like cactus's, succulent, and aloe are
small enough to fit in any dorm room.
Lastly, I have to include wall decals. They come in all
shapes and sizes. They can be small delicate spirals
or bold shapes. The best thing is that they are removable!
So you're not stuck with that drab, 1980's dorm you
you have the power and creativity to change it!
What dorm decor did you use in your dorm room?

Build Confidence

Sunday, August 21, 2016

DC Comics

There are situations that make us feel
less than. Whether it's going back to school or starting a new job. We need confidence  to project us forward.

Below I will list some tips and tricks
I've picked up from YouTube and my readings.

1. Wonder Woman Pose
Amy Cuddy, speaker, and psychologist  emphasizes
the importance of power posing. It's a good practice before
any major presentation or anything nerve wracking for that
matter. Posing changes your mood, elevating it to a more
confident level. Do the Wonder Woman pose! It may feel silly
but it's worth it.

2. Positive Affirmations
Gurus, life coaches, even yoga teachers swear by positive affirmations.
Like ads or any daily exposure, seeing something constantly ingrains itself
into your mind. So post positive affirmations like " You're strong," or "You're
unstoppable," in a mirror or above your bed so you can see it ever day.

3. Do Until it Becomes a Habit
All good things take time and practice. To implement good habits you first
need to do it.You have to do it over, and over until it becomes a part
of your daily schedule. That could be running, or practicing your craft.

4. Live Outside the Box
It's easy to get stuck in a rut, and when you're in a rut things become
stale. The same friends, the same job, the same old same old!
Break the cycle by taking a walk through nature or trying
a  new restaurant. The experience will make you feel new
and refreshed.

5. Do a Good Deed
There's a feeling of pure bliss when you've helped
someone. Some may say it's a biological reward
for helping our species advance, but helping people
is more than that. Helping someone just to help someone.
No cameras, no promotion just the act of doing something
selfless is enough renew the soul.

What are some other ways to build confidence? Leave a comment below.

Final Leg of 2016

Saturday, August 20, 2016

Hi there!

This past week has been crazy for everyone.
With the start of school and the end of summer.

It's hard to get back into the swing of things.
This post is to follow up my inspirational quote.

Personally, I want to believe everything happens for a reason.
It feels like the world is crushing you and there's no letting up.
The important thing is to keep a  positive perspective
You're not going to be happy all the time but keeping a positive perspective
will help you navigate through the chaos.

There's an emerging science called positive psychology.
It asks the question what makes people happy and
why. It has been proven that happier people live longer
and more fulfilling lives.

If you're like many people you probably didn't keep
your New Year's Resolution but there's still a chance!
This is the final leg of 2016, make it a good one.

UO Adidas Campaign

Urban Outfitters Adidas

I admit I'm not the trendiest
person in the world but I do
admire people that are!

If you like to shop vintage
and thrift like I do you probably
shop at Urban Outfitters too.
They have a fun selection of
off-beat clothes and apartment
decor.

But I'm not here for that. UO
recently did a collab with  Adidas
and the campaign is nothing
short of magical.

The models are unique and
edgy. Almost like the cool kid's
table in high school! The line
has the classic track pants and
sports bras.

I just wanted to say that I love
the direction UO went with this
collaboration. It will attract us
"millennials." I get a feeling of togetherness
and acceptance from this photoshoot.
I hope there's more to come!

Athleisure

Thursday, August 18, 2016

I LIVE in athletic wear, as do many
women.

The comfort and color athletic wear.
Many celebrities like Beyonce, Kate
Hudson and many others have a
hand in athletic wear.
Stella McCartney

I can't go a week without wearing
my cropped leggings and breathable
tops. I do admit most of the time I'm
not working out!

Athleisure is not necessary on trend
but it is practical. If you love comfort
as much as I do, athletic wear is a
staple.

If I'm not going anywhere important,
and just running errands athletic
wear is my go to.  I feel like all women
can relate because some days you feel
bloated or just gross and you just
want an easy outfit.

According to the New York Post
the Athleisure may be declining.
I don't believe that is so because I've observed
 many women wearing athletic wear.

Popular brands like Lululemon, Stella McCartney,
and Ivy Park are on the rise.

What do you think? Let it in the comment
section below.

Mom Jeans

Saturday, August 13, 2016

Mom jeans are unflattering

but let's take another look.

Urban Outfitters
If you're a DIY queen or
a thrift store mama, mom
jeans maybe for you.

Mom jeans can be found
at any thrift store. Good
brands to accomplish your
mom jean look would be
Wrangler, Levis and Guess.
Looking in the men's section
will also give you that high
waist you're looking for.

When you find the size, and wash
you want try on the jeans as a double
check to make sure you have the look
you want.

Mom jeans can be paired with quirky
tees, plaid shirts and crop tops.

And wala! You have a cool vintage
look for back to school, or just a new
cool look.

Back to School Inspirational Quote

Friday, August 12, 2016

Start by doing what's

necessary;

then do what's possible;

 and suddenly you are doing

the impossible.

--Francis of Assisi

This lovely quote by Francis talks
about tenacity. Tenacity is the
act of determination and
persistence. It's easy to become
distracted and give up especially
with all the crazy things life throws
at you.

It is important to remember your
mission in life. Your mission in life
is how you want to be remembered
after you leave this Earth.

My mission in life is to create
positive, inspirational artwork. I
want to own my own fashion business
and  start an organization to help
educate women and girls.

This mission WLL be accomplished
through small everyday steps. It is important
to do what is necessary, in order to do
what you want.

What us your mission in life? Leave it in the comment

Gisele & the Rio Olympics

Thursday, August 11, 2016

Gisele Bündchen is a Brazillian born fashion icon. She started out in New York before she got her break.

Gisele Olympics

Before Gisele got her major
contract with Victoria Secret
she was harshly criticized by
talent agencies.

She continuously followed
her dreams until she made it
to the Rio, Olympics.

While walking down the runway
you can see Gisele's
pride for her country. In a long silver dress,
by Alexandre Herchcovitch, Gisele does her
final walk.

Gisele is an inspiring, fierce, fashion
mama! We love you and thank you!

President Obama & his Glamour Magazine Article

Wednesday, August 10, 2016

Twenty-First-century feminism
is about: the idea when everyone is equal,
 we are all more free.

Obama Family
This weekend I picked up
Glamour magazine's September
Issue. There has been "buzz"
on the internet about President Obama's
heartfelt article to his daughters.

I'm in love with the first family and
everything they have done during these
last eight years in the white house,
like that mic drop? Yes!

But the article was about feminism,
and how raising two girls made him
see the subtle obstacles women  face
day-to-day. President Obama's own
struggles with his identity  made him
a feminist.

We have come a long way but we
still have further to go. President Obama
wrote toward the end,  "Twenty-First-century feminism
is about: the idea when everyone is equal,
 we are all more free."

Feminism  is the social, political, and economic equality of
ALL people. That means women, men and the third.
When everyone is free we all will be free.

So check out that article and tell me what you think
in the comment section below

Balloon

Monday, August 8, 2016

If you look around at popular
media you may see
balloons.

You may be thinking 'what
about balloons? It's just a
balloon right?' Well no. I
became curious about what
balloons could mean after
listening to the latest Rihanna
album.

On the cover of her album you
see a small boy with a crown
covering his eyes holding a balloon.
While doing research balloons
often symbolize a letting go of
innocence and youth.

That made me wonder. The movie
UP is about the unlikely duo traveling
 with trillions of balloons tied
to his house, does that symbolize
recapturing youth? Did he reconnect
with his childhood dreams by
taking off in his own personal air balloon?

If you take a look about you can find my album
covers, photo shoots, and movies with balloon
symbolism. The symbolism of balloons
is meaningful and beautiful.

You're Everything I Wallabie

Sunday, August 7, 2016

I can't wait for the colder
weather to wear my desert
shoes.

I know the title says wallabies but I'll
include desert shoes.
MISTER MORT

Wallabies, desert shoes, and loafers
are cozy fall weather shoes. They
have an air of sophistication and ease.
These shoes are easily styled with
jeans and a cardigan. Wallabies
have been spotted on male and female
celebrities.

Wallabies and desert shoes are often
viewed as "guy" shoes but that's not
the case.  Men and women can wear
desert shoes and wallabies! I find
Pinterest and lookbook a perfect
place to get outfit ideas.

Will wallabies be a part of your fall
look? Leave a comment telling me how you
plan on wearing them, and don't forget to

New York, There's Nothing You Can't Do....

Saturday, August 6, 2016

Techie Travelers a new map is in the

works for you.

Have you ever visited New York
and thought "gosh there's so much
to see! If only there was a map to
help me narrow it down."
NYC Parks & Rec
Well techie traveler you're in
luck. The New York City Department
of Recreation created an interactive map
with all of the wonderful attractions New
York has to offer.

It's wonderful to see the city of
New York take interest in the
arts and culture scene. New
York has the best artistic influence
in the United States.

Tourism is an especially lucrative
 business and will surely draw
money into the city.

When navigating through the
website a user can find things
from galleries to temporary
public art.

It is my belief when people
visit a city the thing they want
to see and experience is the art
and culture of that city.

What's your favorite  statue, or exhibit in New York.

Bad Girl Chic

Rihanna

Introducing the queen of bad girl
chic...Rihanna!

The evolution of Rihanna style
is truly amazing. Rihanna has evolved
from a bright-eyed pop singer to
an edgy bad girl we
admire.

What I love about Rihanna is her love

and understanding of her body.
She's not afraid to take fashion
risks or show some skin. You can
spot Rihanna walking with a glass of wine in
her furry slides.

Rihanna

You can also spot her on the red carpet
with a plunging neckline and beachy
waves.

I guess you can say I'm a huge fan
of Rihanna and her street style. Many
if these looks can be translated into
everyday hustle and bustle.

For example Rihanna lovely mid-length
denim skirt can be paired with sneakers
and a simple white button down.

Rihanna

The choker, which is a throwback from
the 90s, can easily be styled for a date
night outfit.

A pair of thigh-high boots with a dress
and a leather jacket would be the perfect
outfit for a concert or night club-hopping.

The lesson we can all take from Rihanna is
love yourself. Celebrate your body and don't
be afraid to be a little bad.

Point & Shoot Music Videos

Thursday, August 4, 2016

If you're following mainstream
music right now...

You'll find a trend among
 musicians doing point and shoot
videos.
Bishop Briggs

The theme is like a homemade
video. A simple camera with a
talented musician lip-syncing
to their music.

The fun of the video is seeing
an artist shoot a video with their
friends and family.

I find it refreshing to see a
music video shot in such a
casual matter. It remains simple
to let the lyrics and vocals shine.

I linked a couple of videos here

music videos? Leave a comment and link
