Black Cat Energy - The Dark and Light Feminine

Monday, October 14, 2024

The concept of "Black Cat Energy" has taken TikTok by storm, serving as a symbol of both dark and light feminine energy. This captivating trend taps into the mystique of black cats—known for their elegance, independence, and perceived connection to the supernatural—while blending it with the duality of feminine power.

On TikTok, creators have started using the concept of "Black Cat Energy" to symbolize a balance between two fundamental aspects of femininity: the light and the dark. Light feminine energy represents qualities like softness, compassion, and nurturing, while dark feminine energy encompasses traits such as independence, mystery, sensuality, and confidence. It's akin to the yin and yang of femininity—two complementary aspects of the same whole.

Black cats, long misunderstood in various cultures, hold a special allure, representing the dark feminine. This energy invites women to embrace their shadows—the parts of themselves that society may fear or reject. It's about owning your sensuality, confidently pursuing what you want, and standing firm in your self-worth.

On the other hand, delicate feminine energy brings balance with tenderness and care. In the TikTok community, users are producing content that celebrates the flexibility of transitioning between these two energies. They often demonstrate how the same person can show strong confidence in one moment and gentle vulnerability in the next. One popular trend involves creators showcasing alternating bold makeup looks and soft, natural aesthetics, accompanied by captions that reflect the dual nature of their personal power.

Elements of a Natural Aesthetic in Your Home

Monday, October 7, 2024

Natural aesthetics in interior design revolve around creating serene, inviting spaces that reflect the beauty of the outdoors. This approach emphasizes the use of organic materials, soft textures, and earth-toned color palettes to foster an environment that feels harmonious, calming, and grounded. Rooted in a desire to bring the outside world inside, the design strategy aims to enhance well-being by establishing a deep connection between nature and living spaces.

One of the key elements of natural aesthetics is the selection of materials. Wood, stone, rattan, bamboo, and linen are commonly chosen to complement the organic feel of a space. Each material carries its own tactile sensation, warmth, and character, contributing to the overall atmosphere of the room. Reclaimed or unfinished wood, for example, brings a raw, earthy feel, while stone elements such as countertops or fireplaces add texture and permanence. These materials age gracefully and often develop a patina over time, reinforcing the natural aesthetic's celebration of imperfections and uniqueness.

The color palette for natural interiors typically revolves around neutral and muted tones. Shades of beige, cream, soft grays, greens, and browns dominate, mimicking the colors of forests, deserts, or beaches. By keeping colors subtle and cohesive, the focus remains on the natural elements of the design, allowing the room to feel open, airy, and uncluttered. Bright, vivid colors are often minimized, but they can be introduced through accent pieces such as plants, artwork, or textiles for a refreshing contrast without overwhelming the space.

Another essential aspect of natural aesthetics is maximizing natural light. Large windows, skylights, and open floor plans that allow sunlight to flood the space are highly desirable. Light not only makes a room feel more expansive but also enhances the textures and materials present in the design. Transparent or sheer curtains can be used to maintain privacy while still allowing light to filter through, softening the atmosphere without blocking the outdoors.

Nature-inspired decor and biophilic elements are also central to this aesthetic. Houseplants are a go-to choice for bringing life and color into the room. Whether it’s the simplicity of a succulent, the elegance of a fiddle leaf fig, or the trailing vines of a pothos plant, greenery can energize and purify a space. In addition to plants, artwork that reflects nature—such as landscape paintings or botanical prints—can enhance the natural theme without requiring elaborate decor.

Texture plays an important role in creating balance in natural interior design. Handwoven rugs, wool blankets, and knitted throw pillows can add warmth and comfort. These pieces provide a cozy contrast to the more structured elements like stone or wood. Organic shapes and asymmetrical furniture pieces, which mimic the imperfect forms found in nature, further emphasize a casual yet curated ambiance.

Ultimately, the natural aesthetic in interior design is more than just a visual style; it's a lifestyle choice. It reflects a slower, more intentional way of living that values simplicity, sustainability, and well-being. By bringing elements of nature into the home, this design approach fosters a sense of peace and comfort, creating a sanctuary that feels both timeless and modern.

The Medicinal, and Magickal Properties of Rosemary

Monday, September 30, 2024

This resilient herb, often linked with memory and protection, has been a fundamental part of herbal medicine, culinary practices, and spiritual ceremonies in various cultures. Whether incorporated into a medicinal tea or a protective ritual, rosemary is significant in both the tangible and spiritual realms.

Medicinal Properties

Rich in Antioxidants
Rosemary has antioxidants, compounds that help neutralize harmful free radicals in the body. These antioxidants support overall cellular health and may reduce the risk of chronic diseases such as cancer and heart disease.

Anti-inflammatory and Pain Relief
The anti-inflammatory properties of rosemary can help alleviate pain and reduce swelling. Rosemary oil is often applied topically to relieve muscle aches, joint pain, and headaches. The herb’s compounds, such as rosmarinic acid, are known to have natural analgesic and anti-inflammatory effects.

Respiratory Health
The essential oils in rosemary, particularly cineole, have expectorant properties that can help relieve congestion and improve respiratory health. Inhaling rosemary-infused steam can help clear nasal passages and soothe conditions like bronchitis or asthma.

Magickal Properties

Strength and Courage
Rosemary is often associated with Mars, the planet of action and assertiveness. As such, it’s used in rituals to boost courage, determination, and strength. Whether facing a difficult challenge or seeking to empower oneself, rosemary can be carried or used in spells to increase inner fortitude and resilience

Protection and Purification
Rosemary has long been used in magickal practices to protect against negative energies and evil spirits. Burning rosemary or hanging sprigs in doorways and windows is said to keep harmful influences at bay. It can also be used to cleanse a space or an object of negativity, making it an essential ingredient in purification rituals.

Rosemary is a versatile herb with dual powers of healing and magick. It bridges the gap between the physical and spiritual realms. Whether you want to improve your cognitive health, protect your space from negativity, or perform love spells, rosemary's potent energies make it an essential tool in both the healer's and the magician's toolkit. Embrace its timeless wisdom and let it guide you toward health, clarity, and strength.

3 Holistic Practices for Everyday

Monday, September 23, 2024

Living a holistic life in this fast-paced consumer-centric society is difficult. We are rewarded for what we can do - produce instead of the person we are. Strangely, ego-centric billionaires are placed on a higher pistol than teachers, caregivers, and the elderly. Instead of following the masses, take a step back. It does not have to be difficult. We often think I don't have the time for that. When it can be easy to do. In this article, you will discover 5 easy ways to live and practice a holistic lifestyle - every day.

Breathwork

Breathing is easy, right? We do it every day, without thought. Breathwork is the practice of deep breathing is ease anxiety. A great place to start is with Arianna Elizabeth Youtube channel. This is a great introduction to breathwork.

💨 10 Min Breathwork & Light Meditation for Focus (Beginner Friendly!)

Nature Walks / Meditative Walk

Walking in nature or walking with intention can be liberating for a busy mind. Our mind needs time and space to think, sort, and compartmentalize thoughts. If you ever tried to go to bed and go to sleep with a busy mind, you'll find the task nearly impossible. Taking the time out of the day to walk with intention can give your mind the time it needs to "sort itself out."

Digital Detox

Mindfulness Leaders recommend a digital detox once a week or more. In interviews with Tech Billionaires, you often hear them say with their own children they limit the time their children spend online. The slang for scrolling mindlessly through TikTok and Instagram is called brain rot.

Brain rot (or brainrot) is a slang term used to describe internet content of low quality or value, or negative effects (psychological, cognitive, etc.) caused by it. - Wikipedia

The act of laying in bed and "rotting," while spending 30 - 1 hour flipping through stories.

Your mind becomes overstimulated by the lightening information and stretched with roller coaster emotions in short-form videos. Turn the phone off and put it in another room. Set boundaries with your loved ones and/or employer and let them know on "X" day I will have my phone off for the entire day. I will be able to answer your question on the following day. This detox is for you and your well being. You deserve it.

Until next time - ciao.

Making a Vision Board with Pinterest

Tuesday, September 17, 2024

I HATE having a bunch of paper around. When bits of paper are strewn around I feel my space fill with chaos. Even if it is for a lighthearted project like making a vision board.

To my amazement, Pinterest came out with a collage feature. The feature allows users to cut out pins and paste them onto a whiteboard. The cut-outs have a smart feature recommending different pins to "complete," the board. This feature can only be used on mobile devices. We'll have to wait for Pinterest to update usage to PC and Macs.

First, you open the Pinterest app and press the" + " button.

Press collage

You will be presented with a blank whiteboard

Press the" + " button

Envision your ideal self, ideal wardrobe, ideal life

Search for it in the search bar near the top

The image will automatically cut out the forefront image. I will admit it is not perfect but it's pretty good.

Add it to the whiteboard by dragging and dropping

Voila!

It is as easy as that. No paper is needed.

I personally love the feature and find it therapeutic.

If you get the try the collage feature be sure to share it in the comment section below.

Until next time,

Retreats for Black Women

Sunday, September 8, 2024

Let me start by saying this -

Just because the summer is over doesn't mean the opportunity to travel has ended. As Black Women, we are overlooked, overworked, and underserved. The American culture is a treadmill of constant grind, unending competitiveness, and separation of communities.

It is no wonder that our physical and mental health suffers.

Our spiritual and mental health has taken a back burner. Finding balance, and finding ourselves has become an unreachable goal. I have discovered rejuvenation through self-care, meditation, and nature. Through the retreat communities made by these amazing Black Women, I hope you find reset, rest, and inner peace.

Embodied Black Girl Retreat

Rooted for the Revolution

Embodied Black Girl is an in-person and online space to transform the mental and emotional BIPOC  women. I enjoyed the Reclaiming Rage by Jennifer Mulllan. The podcast dives deep into anger and how it is an expression of protection.

OMNoire

OMNoire creates a space for you to take ownership of the vision you have for your life, and provide you with the tools to grow beyond what you ever imagined.

It is a Black Woman-owned and operated yoga retreat. Christina M. Rice the founder of OMNoire retreat says she strives to "...create spaces for women to thrive." On her journey to become a licensed yoga instructor, she did not see representation of us in the wellness space. Retreats are in South America, Africa, and the Caribbean.

Black Women Healing Retreats

Embodying Femininity, Travel, Well-Being, & Healing

Black Women Healing retreat is a chance to connect with your carefree feminine side. A space to enjoy nature, yoga, and go within. It is without question the time spent at the retreat will create a new identity and help you find a sisterhood.

The owner of Black Women Healing Retreat said it best, "I prioritized resting in my feminine energy over capitalism, and in return, I found complete bliss, optimal health, high quality of life and peace, something materialism could never buy."

I have only been to one retreat and I continue to reap the benefits of putting myself and mental health first. I hope to see you at one of the retreats soon.

ciao

Hotel Vs Hostel: An Honest Comparison

Sunday, June 3, 2018

The second biggest expense when traveling is the hotel. After you book the flight, pick up the rental car, you're more than ready to relax. The problem is whether to stay at a hotel or hostel. I'm going to give you a quick comparison that will help you in your decision.

                                                                           Hotel

As a young girl one of my favorite books to read was Eloise at the Plaza. The story is of a young girl that lives in a hotel. A hotel is glamorous. Expensive fixtures, artwork and furniture decorate the hotel. Important meetings and people pass through hotels every month. It is what makes a hotel such a great choice.

Pros

Beautiful decor, artwork, chandeliers etc..
Private Room and Bath (in most cases)
Convenient Location (if not knowledgeable staff)
Breakfast Included (in most cases)

Cons

Expensive
Isolated from the locals
Breakfast not always included

B Historic Hotel
Hostel

Hostels or Airbnb are a second great option. Hostels often have multiple beds in a room or even bunk beds. This helps bring down the cost per night. Many Airbnb, bed and breakfast, hostels, pods are popping up for the budget traveler. This is putting pressure on many hotels to become more accommodating.

Pros

Budget-Friendly
App Savvy
Novel Experience
Interaction with Locals

Cons
Somewhat Risky

Requires a lot of Independence
Wild Card

There are pros and cons with both options, it is ultimately up to you.

Push Outside of Your Comfort Zone

Wednesday, May 2, 2018

The problem we often face in life is we get stuck. We get stuck in our comfort zones and forget to live life. Too often I see people blankly stare at their computer screens or walk mindlessly through a grocery store. If you're reading this you're probably like me. You're different.

Over the next couple of weeks, I will list the steps I am taking to push past my comfort zone. The first step is to:

Create a Major Goal
A major goal can be to complete a marathon, travel to foreign country, or act in a play. The goal must resonate with you. The influence of others will not help you complete your goal. It must be your own goal. Let's breakdown the goal into Specific, Measurable, Action-Orientated, Rewarding and Trackable.  I will use my own goal as an example.

" I want to display 10 pieces in an art gallery."

Specific: 10 acrylic paintings displayed in an art gallery.

Measurable:It takes me two weeks to finish one painting.
I have two paintings so far.  I can complete my goal by August.

Action-Orientated: I would needs to discipline myself to paint everyday until August.

Rewarding: In the book 7 Habits of Highly Effective People they say to visualize the end goal.
To me imagining people gathering around my work makes it rewarding.

Trackable: Every two weeks I'll have one work completed. By August all 10 pieces will be done.

When you set a goal make it S.M.A.R.T.  Leave a comment below and tell me what you hope to accomplish in the next 7 months!

Being Happy Where You Are

Wednesday, March 28, 2018

The hardest thing I have ever been asked to do was to be happy where I am. What does being happy have to do with the situation I'm in? How will it improve it? The situation I'm in makes me unhappy. I'm not content with the situation I've been put in. What does it mean to be happy? 'Happy,' is to feel pleasure or contentment. In order to feel happiness you must be open to feeling pain. 'Pain,' is trouble or suffering. When you're at a stage in life were you feel helpless and powerless, how can you feel happiness again?

My new job is very demanding and I was not fitting in with the staff. There was one girl who made my time difficult. It was known that she gives me a hard time on purpose. I had enough and put in my two weeks. This is before I had any job lined up or any plan at all. I let my emotions command me, to the point of an impulsive act. I was not happy at that job, so I did not see any reason to stay. My Human Resources manager stopped me before I quit. She talked to her about the environment of our office and how it can improve.

I did feel like a
child running to tell the teacher but I was happy with just leaving. I'm still at the job but part-time for now. Until I find something that fits my personality better. At this point I'm at a job I don't like. The remaining question is how can I find happiness in a less than ideal situation?

I read a wonderful article by Michelle D'Avella about What It Really Means to be Happy.  D'Avella provides strong points in her article. Happiness is a relationship and not a constant state. Too many New Age books and gurus talk about being happy. People cannot be happy all the time! A relationship accurately defines happiness to me. My relationship with happiness has its ups and downs but I work on it everyday.

The second point is you cannot find happiness in other people, only in yourself. In the case of my job I sought approval from management and a workplace bully instead of myself. That lead me to make a rash decision.

The last point is happiness is only experienced with pain. Pain allows us to feel happiness and only with that do we know what happiness is. I accept my experience as a learning lesson. I learned to not let to opinions of other sway my judgement. I learned that not everyone is going to like me and that ok. As long as I love and respect myself, that's all that matters.

My Sexiest Playlist

Tuesday, March 13, 2018

My sexy playlist is made up of a couple of my favorite songs. This playlist is great if you're looking for a mellow car ride or a relaxing playlist for your boo. A couple of these songs are old so if you have any newer suggestions please comment below.

Is There Somewhere | Halsey

This song is amazing because it captures the uncertainty of love
the newness and excitement.
She asks just for tonight if we could pretend.

You and I | Ingrid Michaelson

This song has a cute ukulele tune to it. Ingrid Michaelson
is one of the greatest folk singers of our generation. I remember
following her on Myspace singing to You and I while a drooled
over my crush!

Belong to You | Sabrina Claubino (feat. 6lack)

This song is more mature than the others. It talks about
mutual respect and care for another person. Love songs
can be selfish, with what the singer needs and wants.
But I belong to you.

Bed Peace | Jhene Aiko

Bed Peace is perfect for a Sunday morning when you and you s.o are just relaxing.
The song capture the slow down culture we miss. The best day is the unplanned, spontaneous
day.

Can I | Alina Baraz
Alina Baraz has made her mark as a sexy soulful
singer with Fantasy and Electric. Can I is different.
A song that sees the beauty inside of another.
There's a universe inside of you.
